Civil earthworks and forestry contractors — Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough

Substantial capability. Direct communication. Practical earthworks and forest management.

FAMILY-OWNED · BASED IN WAKEFIELD

One yard. One point of contact.

Aspect Contracting and Forestry is a family-owned civil earthworks and forestry contractor based at 226 Dublin Road, Wakefield, 23 minutes south of Richmond. Our civil team builds subdivisions, house sites, driveways, fire ponds and dams. We manage forests and subcontracted harvesting crews, with our earthworks team building the roads and preparing the land. One yard and one point of contact across Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough.

Ruby Bay Views in Tasman is one example of our civil work: a 14-lot subdivision with around 40,000 m³ of cut-to-fill and topsoil and GPS machine control. We price single-lot development work through to 100-plus-lot subdivisions; this project is proof, not our capacity limit. See our work.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. Still unsure? Call Mitch on 021 502 429.

Are Aspect and Aspect Forestry the same company?

Yes. Our business name is Aspect Contracting and Forestry, shortened to Aspect. The website address is aspecthub.co.nz. We provide earthworks and forest management, and manage subcontracted harvesting crews; we do not operate an in-house logging crew.

Do you do jobs this small?

Yes. We take a look at anything, from a single tree or a driveway culvert to a subdivision. We take on jobs from around $1,000 to $5 million, so no job is too small to ask about. Small jobs are usually fitted in around larger ones, so call Mitch and tell us what you have.

What services do you offer?

Our main civil and forestry services are subdivision earthworks, site preparation and house sites, driveways and farm tracks, land development and bulk earthworks, forest harvesting, land and scrub clearing, fire ponds, dams, and gravel cartage and crushing. We also coordinate retaining walls with builders and carry out drainage and culvert work, GPS earthworks, forestry roads, replanting, forest management and tree removal. See civil and forestry.

What is your availability?

Call Mitch to discuss the job and when we can start. We respond to routine enquiries within 48 hours, but the start date depends on the scope, conditions and programme. Winter earthworks can be possible in suitable soil types and conditions; drier seasons are generally preferable.

What are your hourly rates?

We do not publish hourly rates. Most work is priced by the job after a site visit, with the scope and responsibilities agreed before work begins. Contact Mitch with your location, plans or photographs for a job-specific discussion and a rough estimate where the information allows.

Can I get a rough estimate or ballpark?

Yes. Call Mitch on 021 502 429 or send photos and the address through the quote form for a ballpark. For a fixed quote we visit the site; larger work is priced from a GPS survey and the engineer's drawings. If the first costing does not fit your budget, we look for another way.

“…the ability to change things up and do things another way when the initial costings weren't coming in where we needed them to be.” — Emma McCashin, Google review

How much water do I need for a rural fire pond in Tasman?

For a new dwelling in a Tasman rural zone without a fire hydrant within 135 m, Tasman District Council's guide asks for a firefighting water supply of at least 45,000 litres, between 6 m and 90 m from the dwelling and accessible to firefighting equipment, or a home fire-sprinkler system with a reliable year-round water supply (Tasman District Council). We build the pond earthworks to the agreed design, confirm who supplies the design, liner and fittings, and check the current rule before we quote.

Which areas do you cover from Wakefield?

We cover Nelson, Tasman, Golden Bay/Tākaka, St Arnaud, Murchison, Blenheim, Picton and the Marlborough Sounds from 226 Dublin Road, Wakefield. Richmond is 23 minutes away, Nelson city about 37 minutes, Motueka about 50 minutes and Tākaka around 95 minutes. Blenheim is about two hours, so Marlborough work is planned as larger packages.
